Hearing the Mother of God
Nasterea Maicii Domnului – Biserica Capu Satului – also known as The Nativity of the Mother of God – is a beautiful wooden church in Câmpulung Moldovenesc. It’s an Orthodox place of worship built between 1855–1858 in the Capu Satului neighbourhood located in the eastern part of Câmpulung Moldovenesc municipality in Suceava county. The religious building is located on Strada Vasile Cârlova, surrounded by the Capu Satului neighbourhood cemetery, and is dedicated to the Nativity of the Mother of God, celebrated each year on 8 September. The HOW is one of the oldest – and largest – churches in Bucovina. First built in 1751, the building has been renovated and expanded over the years, with the current structure completed in 1858 and extensive renovation and expansion works carried out between 2001–2009 by the current priest, Teodor Giosan.
With the capacity to seat up 350 worshippers, the church has recently updated its ageing outdoor speakers. During celebrations and other important events, the HOW often welcomes more than 1,000 people in its courtyard. Taking that into consideration, Giosan needed a way to help everyone outside hear what was happening inside so that they could share in the celebrations.
Amate Audio’s official Romanian distributor, Caesar Entertainment, has fitted six Amate Audio G7 speakers inside the bell tower. Owner Dragos Caesar has a long professional relationship with Echipa Tehnica’s sound technician, Flavius Aioanei, who had visited Giosan and offered to help with the installation. Echipa Tehnica is a local integrator which has been using Amate products in permanent setups for several years. “The G7 was the best choice taking into consideration the specs, price and quality of sound,” explained Caesar, who was able to provide the church with a live demonstration before the purchase. “The intelligibility of sound, even at high performance levels, is great and the topology of G7 exceeded the church’s expectations. Amate is such a fantastic company – they have a great professional team who have become good friends over time.”
The speakers were first put to use for Hramul Bisericii, a special Orthodox celebration for Saint Mary. Every Orthodox place of worship bears the name of a royal holiday, a feast of the Mother of God or a saint – and for The Nativity of the Mother of God, this saint is Mary.
Caesar reports that additional Amate G7s are planned for the outside space as well as a full interior refurbishment in the near future.
