LAV Projekt upgrades audio at of St Nikola Tavelićm with RCF
Designed by architect Magaš and constructed in 1988, the Franciscan Church and Monastery of St Nikola Tavelićm in Rijeka is unique for unusual protruding shape that resembles a dove or an ark. Having been in service for many years, the church’s existing sound system was outdated and had begun to deliver poor sound quality, facing acoustic challenges due to the large concrete interior surfaces and decorative woodcuts. To improve audio coverage and speech intelligibility, LAV Projekt proposed the installation of new RCF speakers.
Four RCF L2406T W speakers have been installed above the altar to cover the congregation area, four RCF DM41B speakers in the apses above the seats and choir, two RCF MQ80P W outdoor speakers above the entrance doors and an RCF MR40W control speaker in the sacristy. The L2406TW is equipped with six 5-inch woofers and four 1-inch dome tweeters placed in front of the centre woofers. This design is said to allow coherent dispersion of sound while minimising echo. The wide horizontal coverage angle and controlled vertical dispersion provide correct sound reproduction over a wide area and help limit microphonics and reverberant sound. In order to improve the intelligibility of the speech on the speakers, a speech filter was also activated.
All audio components are controlled by a rack cabinet in the sacristy and new cabling was also installed for all speaker positions. The installed speakers provide natural sound reproduction while blending in visually. The client is said to be very pleased with the results.
