Poetry in (Air) Motion for EVE Audio
Designed for mid-size recording studios, EVE Audio’s SC2070 is a high-resolution near/midfield two-way monitor with an extra-large Air Motion Transformer. The German manufacturer says that the SC2070 combines the technologies of the SC3070 and the TEC Award-winning SC4070 in a compact monitor. The Air Motion Transformer RS7 is the largest AMT used in a two-way monitor and has a diaphragm area 1.5 times larger than the tweeter used in the SC207. The RS7 has been developed specifically for the SC2070 to achieve a crossover frequency at 1.8kHz which the company reports as “astonishingly low” for a two-way monitor.
The Air Motion Transformer is coupled to a 6.5-inch SilverCone woofer driven by a low distortion copper cap magnet system with a 1.5-inch voice coil. Meanwhile, an optimised, low-resonance enclosure with a reinforced front baffle reportedly ensures that the stability of the SC2070's mechanical construction and bevelled cabinet edges reduces sound diffraction.
All the SC2070’s frequency response parameters are controlled via EVE Audio’s SMART-knob, while high-resolution DSP electronics are supported by an A/D converter from Burr-Brown. The DSP ensures latency-free filtering and protects the drivers against overheating.
Levelling of system volume as well as the adjustment of filters for room variables (low shelf, mid EQ and high shelf filters) can be carried out from the front of the monitor. All settings are displayed on a LED ring, providing instant and precise information of selected values. The brightness of the LED ring can be adjusted for dark studios or video applications.
Two Class-D amplifiers with a total short-term output power of 250W are directly connected to the DSP section with no additional conversion to ensure reliability and a max output level of 116dB (SPL @ 1m, half space, pair).
