SSL plugs in with Blitzer
Blitzer is the latest addition to Solid State Logic's range of plug-ins available in its SSL Complete subscription. The company describes it as an “analogue attitude compressor” capable of delivering everything from soft, saturating compression to brick-wall limiting.
Emulating hardware compressors like the FET '76 limiting amplifier, valve ‘2A’ leveling amplifier, Fairchild and others, Blitzer offers 10 unique compression curves across 10 ratios inspired by a variety of analogue dynamics processors.
Blitzer’s detection sidechain high pass filter (HPF) is designed to remove unwanted low-end frequencies from triggering the compressor, which SSL says is ideal for drum busses, while its detection sidechain bell filter can remove harshness from vocals. The Blitzer plug-in also includes an Auto Gain function for maintaining levels, a cross-platform preset system with A/B and undo/redo stack, and the ability to dial in some of the dynamics of the original signal using the Transients attack modification control. Its Attack and Release controls allow the user to tailor the compressor response to the source material.
Featuring Apple M1 native support, Blitzer uses SSL’s contextual help system and is available exclusively as part of the SSL Complete subscription.
