Calvary Christian Center switches to LED videowalls

With visuals playing an increasingly important part of modern church services, Calvary Christian Center, located in Yuba City, northern California, has installed a pair of ADJ LED videowall displays alongside a lighting package from sister company, Elation Professional. Pastor Michael Ciociola and his wife Dona have led the church since 1991 and head up a large team of both full-time staff and volunteers. The leadership decided to upgrade the AV system in the 900-capacity sanctuary and selected HOW systems integrator Illuminate Production Services (IPS) for the upgrade.

After visiting the site and discussing the budget, the IPS team – led by general manager Kevin Allen – recommended a video system built around ADJ’s AV2X LED panel. A total of 36 panels were specified, split across two separate 6x3 displays hung at the back of the stage flanking the large cross which provides the sanctuary’s focal point. Each screen is positioned on a slight angle, which ensures clear visibility of at least one of the displays from every seat in the room.

“We selected the ADJ AV2X because of the overall performance of the panel,” explained Allen, “taking into account its video card, refresh rate and resolution, amongst other considerations. The price point was also reasonable for what is a good, quality product. It proved to be the perfect solution, the finished installation looked great and our clients at the church were very pleased with their new videowall system.”

On the lighting side, the stage system has been enhanced by the addition of eight KL Fresnel 8 warm white 350W LED-powered fixtures. Producing over 14,000 lumens of output, on a par with compatible tungsten halogen models, the fixture offers removable barn doors and motorised zoom with a range between 11° and 57°. In addition, four SIXPAR 200 144W LED PAR fixtures were added to provide colour washing from the six-in-one RGBAW+UV LEDs. Finally, a total of 10 SIXBAR 1000 12x12W six-in-one RGBAW+UV LED bars have been arranged across the back of the stage to uplight the backdrop curtain.

The result is a modernised sanctuary that retains the same overall look but has been enhanced by the vibrant visuals, coloured backdrop and improved stage lighting. The church leadership is reportedly very pleased with its new LED videowall system and lighting package, which will allow it to continue to host vibrant and engaging services for both in-person and online congregations.
