United Kingdom:

St Paul’s Church in London is just one of many around the world that have recently turned to live streaming services as congregations stay home during the Covid-19 pandemic. The church has used a Shogun 7 HDR monitor-recorder-switcher from Atomos for its live switching and multichannel ISO recording functionalities.

St Paul’s was able to stream its Sunday service direct to YouTube using the Shogun 7 device, chosen in part due to its simple set up and ease of use. Like many British churches, St Paul’s had no existing livestreaming infrastructure in place and, therefore, needed a simple solution that could be set up quickly by some of the more tech-savvy members of its congregation. Using borrowed Sony FS700 cameras, which were connected to the Atomos monitor-recorder-switcher, the St Paul’s team was able to set up and operate amulti-camera system with minimal set up, all while practising social distancing.

The Shogun 7 hardware allows up to four SDI sources to be set to the same frame rate and resolution (up to 1080p60). The resulting programme feed can be fed into a variety of streaming devices for YouTube, Facebook and other social media platforms. Thanks to its SDI output, it can also be fed directly into a broadcast system if required.
