The World Overcomers Outreach Ministries Church holds three campuses in North America. Its main campus in Memphis, Tennessee is able to seat a congregation of up to 4,000 attendees and is built in the round. For this venue, the church enlisted MC2Solutions to design and install a new loudspeaker sound system with products by Community.

‘The system was required to provide very high-quality speech and full-range music, with intelligibility being key,’ said Carl Woodard II, owner and designer of MC2Solutions. ‘With such a large space, more akin to a theatre than a traditional church, we designed a system based on wide dispersion column line arrays with under-balcony fill, to ensure absolute coverage with no dead spots. I chose Community based on previous experience and the new IV6 modular vertical array was the ideal solution. I prefer passive loudspeakers for their cost-effective combination of acoustic purity and long-term system reliability. The multiple IV6 configurations available, with splay options and built-in passive acoustic optimisation settings, allowed me to design the arrays to provide excellent SPL and frequency response consistency with seamless coverage.’

The system consisted of three arrays that each had seven IV6-1122 12-inch vertical arrays. These were flown with IV6 GlidePoint vertical arrays. Four IV6-118S 18-inch subwoofers were also set up to extend the low frequency as well as adding a bass impact. Single and dual 8-inch two-way IC6-1082 and IC6-2082 loudspeakers provided front and under-balcony fill to allow even coverage across the audience. This was all controlled by an Allen & Heath digital mixer, which uses Lab.gruppen amplification and a Lake LM26 DSP. The church also invested in Shure ULX wireless microphones to enable vocal quality with flexibility.

‘The Pastor wanted no dead spots in the congregation seating and is extremely impressed with the results,’ Woodward added. ‘The church had an old component sound system prior to this install and the full sound and intelligibility, even at low SPL, is a dramatic improvement to the listening experience in the room. The loudspeakers are pleasing to the eye as well as the ears. I was initially concerned the system would now be visible, but they are pleased with the appearance and how well it complements the interior aesthetics.’
