SMPTE debuts new webcast series

SMPTE (the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) has launched a new series of educational webcasts: Essential Technology Concepts. The videos are free to view when streamed, while SMPTE members are able to view them later, on demand.

‘The SMPTE Essential Technology Concepts Webcast Series is a great educational opportunity for both early- and mid-career professionals who want to develop their technical knowledge base,’ explained SMPTE director of education, Joel Welch. ‘Whether attendees are filling gaps in their early education, rounding out existing knowledge and skills they gained organically, or complementing technical training associated with specific job responsibilities, they will find these new webcasts a great way to refresh or broaden their understanding of critical technologies and techniques.’

The first webcast in the series, Human Perception Fundamentals: Color, Contrast, and Motion, aired on 7 February with David Long, director of the RIT Center at Media, Arts, Games, Interaction and Creativity (MAGIC), as the guest speaker. Throughout the series, other topics will include imaging physics, the fundamentals of colour science and sound systems. Those who tune in to each webcast will also be able to learn about M&E technology fundamentals and to discuss the various topics with subject matter experts.
