NewSpring Church is considered the largest church in South Carolina and one of the fastest growing ministries in America. It was founded in 2000 and has grown to achieve the status of Southern Baptist mega church with 14 campuses across the state.
Services feature live music from a variety of genres, including traditional hymns and current pop music. To visually complement the songs played at NewSpring’s campus in the city of Anderson, the church turned to Erien Reinerth of LMG, a systems integrator who has consulted with the church for almost a decade regarding solutions at several of its sites.
‘The Anderson campus needed a flexible lighting system that could be moved around and used in different stage designs,’ explains Mr Reinerth. ‘We chose a state-of-the-art lighting system from Elation that allows the church to be highly creative and produce a variety of different looks.’
The Elation rig is provides the church lighting designers, Josh Garcia and Travis Bolton, as well as technical director Joel Yates with a range of moving head and effect lights. This allows them to program custom lighting designs for each of the different musical styles performed at NewSpring. It comprises 24 hybrid Platinum HFX and 10 Platinum Spot 15R moving heads that are used for beams, spots and mid-airs. Dynamic movement effects are delivered by 20 ACL 360 Bar LED battens, while 10 Sniper effect lights are used for for beam, scanner and laser simulated effects, and 36 SixPar 300 LED PAR lights can colour wash any part of the stage when grouped together. Control is via a High End Systems Road Hog Full Boar 4.
‘Besides the flexibility that multi-functional intelligent lighting fixtures give you, including their versatile optics, getting a professional set of features at such a good price point was important in the decision to go with Elation,’ reveals Mr Reinerth. ‘The new lighting has been used in a lot of different configurations since being installed and the client is quite happy.’
